In 1966, Madrid-based optician José Luis Domínguez Lledó decided to set up his own business. He opened a new Opticians in Malaga, hoping to fulfil his lifelong ambition of putting his knowledge and experience at the service of Malaga society. His goal was to provide dedicated, attentive care, prioritising finding the most suitable visual solutions for each individual case above all else. The rest, as he would say, would be a bonus.
The essential often eludes words, but Conrad was able to brilliantly express what Domínguez Lledó was striving to exemplify each day: “The moral side of a business, the ideal and redemptive aspect of earning a living, lies in achieving and maintaining the highest skill possible among its artisans. Such skill—the skill of technique—is more than honesty; it is something broader, an elevated and clear feeling that is not entirely utilitarian, encompassing honesty, grace, and the principle that could be called the honour of work. It is composed of accumulated tradition, kept alive by individual pride, made precise by professional opinion, and, like the noblest arts, stimulated and sustained by informed praise.”
A different kind of Opticians in the quality of service. A different kind of Opticians in customer service. In short: A Different Kind of Opticians.
In December 1975, the Telesur news program on TVE reported on a fashion show co-sponsored by Óptica Domínguez and Modas Difusión. The event featured students from the Philosophy and Literature department at the Vicente Espinel Institute, who modeled designs by Difusión and wore glasses from José Luis Domínguez’s opticians. This show presented the latest trends in clothing and eyewear for the spring/summer season—a forward-thinking way to showcase the most original and flattering glasses frames. Today, his son, José Luis Domínguez Losada, continues the project, backed by a team of professionals and offering the latest trends in lenses, sunglasses, and prescription glasses.
